Abstract
Batik, the art and craft of drawing patterns on a fabric, is one of Indonesia^s famous traditions that is still gaining popularity nowadays. Typically, the traditional way of crafting batik, especially hand drawn batik, requires a significant amount of time to manufacture. Therefore, this paper proposes a machine that shortens the time to produce batik, starting from drawing the pattern to coloring the fabric. The proposed design employs the CNC concept to replace the hand drawn to machine drawn batik. Electric canting is used to replace the traditional canting, where the wax can be fed in continuously. A conveyor and spray nozzles are added to automate the coloring process right after the fabric has been pattern drawn. Coloring agents, such as remasol, indigosol, and naphthol were explored to provide an efficient coloring process and good result. The initial experiment of the design prototype showed that the drawn pattern had a 0.05% of error from the original. Remasol gave a consistent color to the fabric with 5gr+5gr/220mL of concentration of coloring agent with its fixator to water. The prototype demonstrated that the Batik CNC machine can rapidly assist to produce batik.
