Abstract

Harmonics is one of the power quality problems caused by the connection of the electric power distribution system with nonlinear loads. Harmonics cause many problems in electrical installations such as overheating, derating, efficiency reduction and reduced functionality. This paper presents a study and design of a single tuned and high-pass damped passive harmonics filters to minimize harmonic distortion caused by a harmonic sources. The system has been implemented using ETAP software. The simulation results show that both types of filters can reduce the harmonic content of the system, which is indicated by a decrease in the THDi value.

Keywords: harmonic, passive filters, total harmonic distortion (THD)
