Abstract

Abstract. The activity of Polyvinyl alcohol as an iron corrosion inhibitor in 1% NaCl solution has been studied. The study of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) activity as an iron corrosion inhibitor in NaCl 1% solution was carried out by the Wheel test method with variations in concentration and temperature. The surface analysis of iron by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The results showed that Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) compounds had optimum inhibitory activity at a concentration of 8 ppm with an efficiency of 53.88% at a temperature of 25ÂșC. Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) has adsorption properties that are in accordance with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm with a free adsorption energy of -34.028 kJ / mol. The results of the surface analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) could inhibit corrosion rates with iron surfaces that had fewer pores than without inhibitors.
