Abstract
Abstract. This study aims to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of research based fruit fly Bactrocera spp field guide book in order to improve the learning outcome of the students in entomology course at the Biology Department of Universitas Negeri Medan (State University of Medan). This research used development research method according to the 4-D Thiagarajan model. The effectiveness test of guide book used the one group pretest-posttest design. The research population was biology students who took entomology course, while the sample consisted of 17 students of bilingual biology education. Questionnaire was used in feasibilities data collection and multiple choice test for effectiveness. Data analysis for effectiveness test using t test and n-gain score. The research result showed that the feasibility of the guide field book that be developed was very good according to material experts (90.99), learning design experts (88.74) and layout design experts (92.86). Likewise, it is very good too according to entomology lecturer response (94.16) and students response (82.71). The results of the effectiveness test showed that there was a very significant difference in learning outcome of the student^s in entomolgy course before and after the using of developed fruit flies field guide book (t = 13.26- P = 0.01). The effectiveness of the book was moderate ( n-gain score mean = 0.57). Therefore, it could be concluded that the research-based fruit flies (Bactrocera spp) field guide book that be developed was very good and can improve the learning outcome of the student^s in entomology course.
