Abstract
This study aims to present learning about cultural preservation and honing communication skills through fairy tales. Educators feel a culture of reading is important, especially educators at the elementary level, because at this level children are in a period of rapid growth. Character building and good habits are very suitable to be instilled at this level. One of the efforts to maintain a culture of reading is by planting reading to children in this technological era. Fairy tales are usually stories that are quite popular with children and are often told from generation to generation. A little more fairy tales Enough messages, because in it there is always tucked the meaning of life. This research used retrospective research. This research design was implemented to 35 students in grade 5 SD. 35 students were divided into 7 groups and given stories and students to find aspects of the title, author, 5w + 1h, and lessons from the reading. The technique involves data in the form of documentation and in-depth interviews with teachers and students. The findings in this study indicate that in learning, meaning is not only obtained by children, but by teachers as well as everyone involved in it.
