Abstract

This study aims to improve the quality of science learning through STEM. The STEM approach is a modern approach to solving problems in the 21st century that requires students to be able to innovate, especially in learning. The STEM approach when associated with the environment will create learning that presents the real world that students experience in everyday life. This means that through the STEM approach, students do not just memorize scientific concepts and their relation in everyday life. As well as developing knowledge content in science, technology and mathematics, the STEM approach also seeks to cultivate skills such as scientific inquiry and problem-solving skills. STEM integration and problem-solving abilities as the two approaches that begin with problems can be considered as an innovative approach in the form of PCMC (Problem, Critical, Manipulation, and Communication) for students in the subject of Pressure in Junior High Schools (SMP). The population in this study were students of Class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Kapetakan. This type of research is quantitative research. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, observation and structured interviews. The analysis technique uses descriptive analysis. The results showed that the innovation of the problem-solving ability approach and the STEM approach could increase the participation of students in science learning, as well as train students^ abilities in linking the four fields of exact science so that they had broad and deep insights.
