The Fast and The Newton: Measuring Kinetic Friction through Composite Functions
Dini Asri Kusnia Dewi, Hilman Panji Firdaus, Maulana Restanto

SMA Darul Hikam Internasional

Abstract

Friction is prevalent in our everyday life. Friction emerges as two surfaces of bodies are in physical contact. There are two types of friction that may occur depending on the state of an object, static friction and kinetic friction. Most of these concepts are learned theoretically in class. Apart from relating to the basic arithmetic operations, this concept also deals with the theory of composite functions. This study aims to invite students to apply concepts in project activities so that students can get an idea of how these concepts are related in their daily life. This study was conducted through a project developed jointly by physics, mathematics, and English teachers. The project is divided into several activities that will be carried out by students such as making toy cars to video presentations. The results showed that students were able to interpret the relationship between the concepts they learned from various subjects into a fully integrated meaning.

Keywords: kinetic friction, composite functions
