Abstract
21st century skills are seen as important skills for society in todays era, including critical thinking skills and cognitive abilities. This study aims to analyze students critical thinking skills and cognitive abilities on the topic of effort and energy using the ICARE model. The research method used was pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest research design. The sample of this research is class X in private high school which is selected using purposive sampling method. The instrument used in this study is a critical thinking skill test. The data analysis technique used the normalized average N-Gain percentage. Data collection was carried out by pretest and posttest to analyze critical thinking skills of students cognitive abilities, and observation sheets for the implementation of learning. Based on the results of the research conducted, students critical thinking skills were still low with the proportions for each aspect of the Critical Thinking Skills: Providing basic explanations (36.80%)- Build basic skills (40.80%)- Inference (32.00%), Making further explanations (30.67%)- and strategy and tactics (36.80%). The average percentage of students critical thinking is 35.41%. As well as cognitive abilities with an average N-gain of 40.60% in the moderate category. The results of the study provide an overview of students critical thinking skills who still need to learn in learning.
