Abstract
This study aimed to describe the characteristics of high school students^ algebraic reasoning process with different cognitive stages in solving mathematical problems. A total of 37 students were given the Longeot test to classify students into the cognitive stage. Based on the answers given by students in the Longeot test, as many as 41% of students were still in the concrete stage, and as many as 59% of students were in the formal stage. At each cognitive stage, one student is taken randomly to be given an algebraic reasoning test on the algebraic function limit material. The results showed that students in the concrete stage can only reach level 3, while students in the formal stage can reach level 4, but both have not been able to solve the problem correctly.
