Problem Analysis on Curved Side of Solid Figure and Efforts to Solve It

Abstract

The curved side of the solid figure is a part of the geometry subject which studying it recently is essential. It indirectly allows students to analyze and interpret everything they live in, which also helps them operate the other materials. Nevertheless, the real fact presents that there are many obstacles and errors that students face in this subject. Therefore, student error analysis could be one of the appropriate methods to solve this issue. Its purpose is to identify the errors and the causative factors made by students. Subsequently, following-up and handling of these errors could be carried out. This article aims to study the form of problems that are generally faced by students in the curved side of solid figure material. This study is a review of some articles that discuss the problems students often encounter on the curved side of solid figures. The final result indicates that the students tend to make mistakes regarding the concepts and principles, such as procedural, computational, carelessness, and calculations. This article also delineates the efforts of teachers in the classes, including using teaching aids and technologies, giving questions regularly, making remedies for students who have difficulties, and in the learning process paying attention to the phases of student geometry development in van hiele theory. This research is expected to be useful in the education field, especially mathematics teaching, where following-up and handling curved-side building problems found in the classroom could be carried out.
