Abstract
Abstract. The aim of this study is to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of rice leaf and planthopper (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha) field guide book in improvement the student achievement in entomolgy ourse at Biology Department of Universitas Negeri Medan (State University of Medan). The research method uses the Thiagarajan 4-D model development research. The research design for effectiveness test used the one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was all biology students who studying the entomology course, while the sample consist of 24 students. Data collection techniques consist of questionnaire for feasibility analysis and multiple choice test for its effectiveness. The t test and n-gain score were used for effectiveness test. The reserach results showed that the feasibility of developed guidebook was very good according to material experts (89.17), learning design experts (90.42) and layout design experts (94.17). Likewise, it is also very good according to the response of the entomology lecturer (92.52) and students (88.25). The result of the effectiveness test showed that there was a very significant difference of student achievement before and after using the rice leaf and planthopper field guide book (t count = 19.09- P = 0.00) with a moderate level of effectiveness (n-gain mean=. 0.65). Therefore, it can be concluded that the rice leaf and planthopper field guide book that be developed based on research wasa very good and can significantly to improve the student achievement in entomolgy course.
