Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the learning process. The covid-19 pandemic resulted in the face-to-face learning process being changed into learning from home with an online learning system, including the science learning process. However, the online learning process did not work optimally as expected. There were many obstacles encountered during the science learning process from home. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the implementation of online science learning in elementary schools during the Covid-19 pandemic. The type of this research was qualitative. The research took place at Islamic Elementary School of Al Azhar 32 Padang. The data were collected through an interview process. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis techniques from Miles & Huberman, which consisted of data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that elementary school students already have the basic facilities needed to take part in online learning. Online learning has flexibility in its implementation. Online learning can encourage students to be more active in the learning process. Online learning helps the emergence of social distancing behavior and minimizes student crowds to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in elementary schools. Otherwise, the study also found several weaknesses in online learning, namely the lack of supervision of students during the learning process, the lack of strong signals in remote areas, and the high cost of internet service. This research implies a reference in the development of science learning in elementary schools
