Abstract
The development of material for the Toxicology laboratory activities in the Biology Study Program of FPMIPA UPI in the new normal Covid 19 period is very much needed. The purpose of writing this paper is to design a qualitative test of chemical preservatives in processed food for laboratory activity materials. The method used is a literature study of journal articles related to chemical preservatives in food processing. During the literature study, data on the content of preserved chemicals, the effects of these chemicals on human health and qualitative testing were compiled. This laboratory activity can be carried out at home by individual students with low cost and easily available materials. The results of the literature study show that only 2 chemicals (formaldehyde and borax) will be detected using natural ingredient indicators. It is hoped that home-practical exercise can be carried out and may improve the experience of students in conducting an experiment.
