Considering the importance of overcoming learning obstacle experienced by students, knowledge is needed by teachers to know obstacles students experience in solving math problems. The purpose of this research is to find out what are the epistemological obstacles of the students in solving proportion problems. The descriptive qualitative research method is used in this research. Researchers are the main instrument that plays a role in the entire process of research activities, from determining the focus of research, collecting data, analyzing data to making conclusions or verification. Data were collected using test instruments and interview techniques. The result of this research is the occurrence of epistemological obstacles in junior high school students, namely when understanding concepts and solving math problems. Learning obstacles also occur because students do not the questions in the form of stories and tend not to be able to solve the questions until finished. Students should be given questions in the form of problem solving, so that students have the ability to think critically and do not experience difficulties when given questions in the form of stories or problem solving.
