Abstract

Objectivities of this study is to determine the scientific concept of mathematicians, the concept image of the teacher and the concept image of students on the topic of set operations, the causes of the concept image possessed by students, and the differences between mathematical scientific concepts, teacher concept images, and student concept images. This study use qualitative method with hermeneutic phenomenology approaching, The research was conducted by giving students a concept image test and interviewing students to explore the concept image of students on the topic of set operations. Furthermore, the students concept image will be compared with teacher and scientific concept of mathematician. The subjects of this study is Junior high school students who have studied the topic of set operations as many 30 students. The results of the study is that there were no significant difference between the scientific concept of mathematicians and the concept image of the teacher, a very large difference between the scientific concept of mathematicians and the concept image of students, a very large difference between the concept image of the teacher the concept image of the student on the topic of set operation.
