Abstract

An alarm that climate change was happening and was destructive to humans is the Seroja tropical cyclone in April 2021 and the reduction of coastlines around Kupang city. Knowledge about climate change must be taught as soon as possible to the students, especially in an area impacted by climate change. This study aims to increase the knowledge and recognition of the students before climate change is happening so that the students could act and give a positive impact on the surrounding environment and wider areas. Online learning is a challenge to the teachers in sharing their knowledge and ensuring that the students recognize climate change. Education involving departments such as the Department of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics and experience-based learning using the Project-Based Learning (Trial Class) model and Problem Based Learning (Control Class) can increase literation before climate change for students in grade VII (n = 60 students) in SMPN 8 Kupang. This was a Quasi-experiment design study. The instrument used is a questionnaire and forms used to gather information about the knowledge and recognition before climate change. The T-Test for knowledge = 0.034 in which experience-based learning can increase students^ knowledge. The students^ level of recognition and awareness were directly proportional to the student^s knowledge, which resulted in real action which was then socialized by each of the students on their social media accounts.
