Abstract
The research is an ethnophysics study on the local wisdom of umekbubu. This research aims to define the topic to use the local wisdom of umekbubu as a learning source. This study was qualitative research with a phenomenology approach. The research stages include description, reduction, and selection. The sample of the study consisted of 53 heads of families selected randomly. The data was collected by surveys and or observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. There are three data analysis steps: description of umekbubu local wisdom, reduction of ethnophysics topics, and determining the concept. The concept that focuses on the analysis is heat and temperature. The physics fact in umekbubu local wisdom is that heat and temperature are integrated with the activities of the Dawan-Timor tribal community. The survey shows that the temperature in umekbubu increases during the cooking process. The temperature is from 230C to 400C with a mean temperature of 290C during cooking. In contrast, the air temperature (outside of umekbubu) is 350C - 100C. Respondents^ data shows that the public benefits of umekbubu are to protect themselves from bad weather and preserve local food ingredients. Radiation and convection heat transfer processes can be used to preserve local foodstuffs. Thus, the umekbubu can be an alternative learning source for teaching heat and temperature topics.
