Abstract
The Dutch began exploring oil in South Sumatra in 1895. The spread of these Dutch oil wells covered several areas in South Sumatra, one of which was in the Musi Banyuasin Regency. Currently, the area with the greatest potential as an oil produced in Musi Banyuasin is Sungai Angit village. The management of the Dutch heritage oil wells is carried out by the community using traditional methods and does not have a permit / illegal. Illegal oil drilling activities have a negative impact on the environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of illegal on the environment in Sungai Angit Village. This research is included in qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques by way of field studies, interviews, and literature studies. Based on the results of this study, showed that oil drilling activities in Sungai Angit Village cause environmental pollution, i.e. river water changes color to black and smells of oil, river silting occurs, destroys forests and agricultural land, kills plants, produces a pungent odor and disturbing sulfur oxide gas, and making noise.
