Abstract

The boiling point elevation experiment is one of the experimental simulations contained in the Maya Lab on the vlab.learning.kemdikbud.go.id site, which can be accessed by anyone freely. One of the main components in the construction of the test equipment used in the experimental simulation is an open beaker. This study aims to examine the construction of the tools used in the experimental simulation. The method in this study is to compare two test equipment constructions, using open beakers of various sizes (100ml, 150ml, and 200ml) with a two-neck flask connected to a different type of condenser (liebeg, vigreux, and graham). Based on experiments conducted on the construction of test equipment with an open beaker, it was found that there was a significant reduction in solvent volume. The average volume reductions were 21%, 25%, and 29%, respectively. This will cause a change in the concentration of the substance being tested so that the boiling point measurement is wrong. In the experiment using the construction of the second tool, an average volume reduction of 0-0.5% was found. A constant volume with a reduction of 0% is obtained by utilizing a graham condenser. The use of a flask connected to the condenser proved to be able to maintain the amount of solvent in the boiling point elevation experiment. The results of Mann Whitney test on the two test equipment constructions showed a significant difference between the two sets of test equipment.
