Abstract

The concept of Physical Literacy (PL) has been proposed globally as one that can offer new catalysts in physical education, sports, and health due to its holistic nature and potential impact on people^s lives. Empirically, there is a lot of research evidence that states that integrated physical literacy in physical education have proven to be the best practice in reducing catastrophic disease or increasing adolescent physical activity participation. Not only that, the other evidence reveals that physical literacy is also an integral part of sports development in the fields of education, recreation, health and even elite sports. The abundance of evidence on this does not mean that all countries adopt the importance of physical literacy to be integrated with physical education, including Indonesia. The purpose of this article is to present physical literacy policy considerations for policymakers in the fields of education, recreation, health, and sports. A broader international definition and construction of physical literacy is reviewed to establish physical literacy policies into applicable regulations. This policy considers being consistent with international understanding of the concept of physical literacy that is developing in various countries and how it can be used to achieve the goals of education, recreation, health, and sports that are developing in Indonesia.
