Abstract
: The Spanish flu in 1918 was the first global public health incident that the United States has encountered since the beginning of the 20th century. The U.S. federal government^s lack of anticipation and awareness of the pandemic in the early stages of the epidemic, as well as military and political considerations from World War I, were the main reasons for the raging domestic flu. After the outbreak of the pandemic, thanks to the ^publicity^ characteristics of American society, public discourse in the field of sports and health was expressed and recorded. It not only creates historical knowledge and information in the field of sports and health, and preserves the public^s experience of the influenza epidemic, but also provides local strategies and practices in sports and health that the American society can refer to during the epidemic. It also reflects the conflict between public interests and individual rights in emergencies. In the dual context of the pandemic and World War I, the sports emotions and demands accumulated by American society influenced the development of American sports and contributed to the golden decade of American sports in the 1920s.
