Abstract

Physical Education (PE) is an integral part of an effort to increase physical literacy (PL) among students. This research was conducted in one of the elementary schools in Bandung. This study aimed to explore the influence of PE in elementary schools on increasing PL. A total of 60 students (Male = 37, Female = 23) with an age range of 11-12 years participated in the study after obtaining approval from the parents or guardians of the students through the informed consent form. This research has received ethical approval from the Medical and Health Research Ethics Committee (MHREC) No. KE/FK/1370/EC/2021. This study was conducted for one year (2 semesters) with a 14-day break in the middle of the year. The instrument used is the second edition of the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy (CAPL-2). The Paired-sample t-test data analysis showed a significance of 0.00, indicating an influence of PE on increasing students^ PL. In addition, the Mann-Whitney analysis also shows that there are significant differences between male and female students. Indicators of motor ability and torso strength are dominated by male students, while other PL indicators are dominated by female students. Further research is needed to explore more deeply related to other factors that can affect students^ PL levels, including the role of parents and peers.
