Analysis of Higher Order Thinking Skills of VIII-Grade Students on the Concept of the Human Circulatory System

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are a higher level thinking skills, one of the essential skills that students should have in the 21st century. This research aims to analyze the Higher Order Thinking Skills of VIII-grade students, on the concept of the Human Circulatory System, to know a picture of the ability of high-level thinking skills that students have. The HOTS analysis was carried out using the indicator of questions test based on the Bloom Taxonomy Revision, which consisted of the cognitive domains level of analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5) and creating (C6). This research used a qualitative method, with the sample used was 40 students of class VIII-5 SMPN 2 Dramaga, Bogor district. The instrument used in this study is the question of Higher Order Thinking Skills form of multiple choice of 20 valid and reliable questions. The results of the research showed higher order thinking skills of students with excellent category was 0%, good category was 2.5%, the sufficient category was 7.5%, the low category was 15%, and very low category was 75%. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that HOTS students at SMPN 2 Dramaga generally fall into the very low category, so I would like to carry out advanced research in the development of Science e-module HOTS-based on the human circulatory system concept for VIII grade students
