Abstract

STEM learning is now being implemented at science school. After a session of STEM training, a group of science teachers in west Java was implemented STEM learning in secondary school with a temperature and heat topic. The school in which STEM learning is implemented is located at the suburb area of Sukabumi City-West Java, Indonesia. The research aims to elaborate how STEM learning can lead students to learn actively and interactively by using all their modalities as expected by the independent learning curriculum (Curriculum^merdeka Belajar^). The qualitative research was conducted through the deep learning observation. The observation was done through the direct observation by some science teachers and using video recording to complete the observation. The tests were also carried out to find out the quantitative picture of student achievement (STEM assessment). the results of interviews with teachers and students revealed that this STEM learning was the first experience for them. Many interesting things were found during the learning process, which greatly provided prospects for the future of STEM learning. STEM learning does not necessarily improve student learning outcomes as expected. However, the characteristics of stem learning in accelerating the Merdeka Belajar program are very visible. All teachers involved agreed that if this learning was carried out at least 3 times, they were optimistic that STEM literacy could be achieved by students.
