Abstract

Water and air pollution from forest and land fires are two major environmental issues in Siak Regency. This study aims to obtain empirical data by implementing real action projects based on SSCS learning to improve critical thinking skills and sustain awareness among junior high school students. This quasi-experimental research was conducted on two groups of JHS students at Koto Gasib, Siak. The Experimental Class uses the SSCS learning model with the ESD approach, and the Control Class uses a scientific learning model. Sustainability awareness indicators consist of 1) sustainability practice awareness- 2) behavioral and attitude awareness- and 3) emotional awareness). The real action on the topic of ^pollution^ is in the form of water purification projects, planting pollutant-absorbing plants, as well as making flower pots and eco-brick literacy gardens. The results of the analysis of sustainable awareness also show a higher average in the Experimental Class, namely 76% in the sufficient category, while the Control Class has an average of 65% in the middle category. The application of the SSCS learning model with the ESD approach is capable of improving students^ sustainable awareness through environmental problem-solving activities by developing knowledge, behavior, and an attitude of love for the environment.
