Abstract

Social skills are an important aspect of education, the world of work, and everyday life, both in personal and professional contexts. Social skills development is becoming an increasingly important focus in education, as it can help students interact with others, build good relationships, as a predictor of academic success, and improve the overall quality of life. However, with the changing social dynamics that occur in the digital era, educators and researchers realize the importance of a valid and reliable instrument to assess and develop social skills not only in primary and secondary school but even for adolescents in college. This article aims to discuss the process of adapting an instrument to assess adolescent social skills in higher education, highlighting the key considerations and steps involved in its development. A total of 118 college students were sampled in this study, with the majority being 65% male, and 35% female with an average age of 18 years. The results of the instrument validity test using Pearson correlation showed that 45 statement items were valid (r count > r table) of 46 statements items. It can be concluded that the Indonesian version of the SSIS-RS instrument has achieved adequate group validity. Cronbach alpha ranged from 0.888-0.893, indicating adequate internal consistency. The Indonesian version of the SSIS-RS instrument is said to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing students^ social skills as well as a predictor of academic success and future success.
