Assalamualaikum wr.wb.
Dear Mrs. Susi Hindarti,
Thank you so much for presenting nicely prepared information about promoting
early-year children^s engagement in science learning. Based on the result that you
explained, in cycle 1 and 2, there are none of the students pose any questions to
their teacher. However, in cycle 3, 7 students are ready to pose a question. That is
such a successful part of learning carried out by that teacher.
On this occasion, would you mind to share how teachers promote students^
willingness in posing question? Are there any possible factors that also affected
students^ willingness in posing question?
Your kind explanation will really help me then because I still struggling to promote
my pupils (in elementary school) to pose a question in learning.
Thank you.

Best regard,
Nana Diana

Dear Miss Nana Diana,
Thank you for asking.
According to my experience, early-year children^s willingness to pose questions
depends on at least five things.
1. The content of the topic. The content used is around the daily lives of
children so that it can attract the attention and interests of children to focus on
the topic.
2. The used uncomplicated words and sentences according to children^s
language also influences their interests.
3. The method. I used Question and answer method for learning in class to
involved children willingness to answer and pose question.
4. The media also influences student involvement in asking questions. The
media that I use were pictures and real object to focus student attention and
enthusiasm in learning.
5. The ability of teachers to manage the class also affected the children
willingness.
In my case, The content I used in class learning is about holiday with the theme
of transportation vehicles. Fortunately, the children had just been on vacation
with their families during school holidays. This made children become
enthusiastic to ask and tell about their vacation experiences. I used picture of
vehicles, such as plain, cars, motorbike, etc. I also used real object such as
mirror. Furthermore I conducted question and answer activity to discuss the
science content. I used simple words that are familiar for the children. To
succeeded the lesson I organized the children to sit in the half circle in front of
me. I invited them one by one to narrated their experience during holiday.

Thank you
