Dear Mr.Agung Subiantoro.
Thank you so much for the good presentation. In your Introduction presentation,
there is 5E-Learning Scenario.
Could you please exlpain, What and How are 5E-Learning Scenario?
Thank you.
Replies:
The 5E-learning scenario which was implemented in this research is basically a
learning model that developed by the Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS)
and derived from the scientific approach. The term ^5E^ was named or refers to five
learning phases that supposed to be applied consecutively, including: Engage,
Explore, Explain, Elaboration, and Evaluate.
Briefly described, in this research, the 5E-learning scenario was implemented to
experiment group, based on the context and issue applied in the instruction (i.e
nutrition and digestive system topic). In the engage phase, students were engaged
to recognise the issue of malnutrition and asked to giving their opinion. Further in
the explore stage, students were assigned to explore the nutritional status of their
body by measuring their body mass index and basal metabolic rate. Based on the
data obtained, students presented and discussed their exploration results by
comparing the data each other, and also asked to relate the data to the basic
problem of malnutrition. Continuing to the next phase, - elaborate -, students was
arranging, counting and discussing the daily menu for each student by which the
balance nutrition is considered. This phase was to support students to construct
more insightful knowledge. Lastly, in evaluation phase, teacher and students
reflected the learning scenario and their experience together.
The number 1 to 5 represent test items which were administered either as the pre-
test and post-test. These items derived from three health literacy indicators
applied in the research.
