What instruments are used in obtaining verbal and visual
communication data?
Is it an observation, a worksheet, a test, or something else?
How is the rubric divided into 2 competency areas, 4 skill
components, and 16 activities in acquiring verbal and visual
communication data?
Thank you Replies:
The instrument being used in this study is communication skill rubric with 3
(three) scale scoring criteria such as 1 (one) as unsatisfactory, 2 (two) as
satisfactory and 3 (three) as excellent. The rubric itself is adopted from standard
infographic guideline and The Competent Speaker which originally developed by
National Communication Association. In this case, students^ skill attainment is
assessed with the rubric by considering their infographic products and the way
they presented the content of infographic.
The rubric can be particularly divided into those parts since communication itself
has an extensive part in receiving and delivering information which can be in
oral and written forms (Buck & Vanlear, 2002- Morrale et al, 2007). That is why
there are total 2 (two) competency areas such as verbal communication and
visual communication. In addition to that, each competency area has its detail
skill components. For example in verbal communication, in the process of
converting information orally there would be content preparation and
appropriate way in delivering it thus there are ^preparation and component^ and
^presentation and delivery^. Besides, for visual communication, it refers to the
things should be included thus the skill components involve ^content generation^
and ^visual design generation^
However, for the activities itself are all derived from each skill components from
both verbal and visual communication skill. Hope it answers your question.
