INDONESIA UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION

Abstract

One of the problems related to the quality of education, especially those related to Chemistry learning, is the existence of difficulties that are still experienced by students in learning this subject. As a result, many students experiencing failures in studying Chemistry.
To overcome the problem experienced by students in studying Chemistry, a learning strategy is needed to change students^ view that learning Chemistry is fun and less difficult. One of the strategies offered by experts and has been proven to increase students^ understanding of chemical concepts and scientific literacy is contextual-based learning. The students^ environmental and cultural backgrounds have a greater effect on the educational process than the effects contributed by the provision of learning materials.
One context that can be used as a focus in chemistry learning is the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer from bamboo shoots (Dendrocalamus Asper) through a fermentation process with the help of bacteria. This fermentation process can be followed by changes by measuring changes in the volume of gas produced at any time. In this research, the process of fermenting bamboo shoots into liquid organic fertilizer is the theme of the experiment to determine the order of the reaction that can be done by students through a project-based learning model.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced teachers to convert their traditional teaching media into online learning. This may not create significant obstacles for theory delivery, but this is certainly difficult for practical works in chemistry. Unlike other subjects, chemistry required students to understand how the knowledge is gathered and the aspects of data acquisition in chemistry. Students are required to understand the Nature of Science and this is normally achieved by providing practical works enabling students to experience first hand the science process skills in chemistry. Although there are probably no online media that matched students actual activity in the laboratory, virtual laboratory may provide some benefits. These include students ability to understand laboratory apparatus, observe and understand science phenomena, collecting data, changing variables and analyzing experiment results. This study shows how teachers can design a laboratory activity based on the available virtual laboratory on thermochemistry topic. The integration of the topic to national curriculum, laboratory work design, students worksheet development are described in detail. This may serve as an alternative for thermochemistry learning in high school.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all educational institutions conduct learning through distance learning. This makes teachers and students have to adapt to online learning, particularly in bifunctional organic compound course, which requires comprehension at the macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic levels. To improve student^s knowledge, an effective online learning method is required. The RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain-Create) model was chosen as the model for bifunctional organic compound lectures. These activities were carried out through 5 stages via online learning, including reading lecture materials, doing pre-learning assignments, doing pre-test, doing discussion, and doing post-test. This lecture was attended by 43 students from Chemistry Education study program. Student^s reading time grew by an average of 2.54 hours, and the actual ability of students can be seen through the value of pre-learning assignments. Pre-test and post-test were given to determine student^s potential abilities. Based on the calculation data shows that the discussion affects increasing the potential ability of students. The improvement of students^ potential abilities is not always the same in each topic, this can be seen from the N-Gain scores on each topic. The N-Gain value in preparation of bifunctional compound and diene reaction topics, showed a very low increase (N-Gain value < 0.3).

Abstract

Nowadays, land for farming in urban areas is decreasing. One of the efforts to grow crops in such urban areas is to build a greenhouse. To ensure good growth of plants in the greenhouse, the light intensity and humidity in the greenhouse area should be kept at a proper condition. This paper describes the design of a fuzzy logic controller to maintain the light intensity and humidity in a prototype greenhouse at a certain setpoint. The input variables for the fuzzy inference system consist of light intensity and humidity, while the output variables are the duration of watering and ultraviolet LEDs. The input and output variables are represented by five fuzzy sets respectively with a certain trapezoidal and triangles membership functions. Meanwhile, monitoring the condition of the greenhouse using the LoRa communication protocol. Experimental results show that the Mamdani fuzzy inference system for this greenhouse system can regulate light intensity and humidity effectively with a maximum overshoot of about 10% and a settling time of approximately 4 hours, whereas the maximum achievable range for transmitting data with the LoRa communication protocol is about 520 m.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Abstract

Wireless communication systems evolve according to the needs of their users. In a communication system, it is necessary to determine the use of methods in order to obtain good system performance. One of them is the accuracy in the use of modulation in a communication system. QAM is known to have a fairly good performance for communication systems. M-ary QAM is a QAM modulation with M-ary values of 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and so on which are multiples of 2. The higher the M-ary value, the higher data rates will support. However, if the channel condition is poor, then the small M-ary value must be small. Because if the M-ary value is bigger on a bad channel, it will cause more errors. In addition, the use of LDPC code as channel coding can provide additional improvements to system performance. In this paper, the results of the system performance on the use of 16 QAM and 64 QAM on a channel are simulated using MATLAB software. It is known that by using 16-QAM and LDPC code, a smaller SNR value is obtained than using 64-QAM to achieve the target BER 10-3.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Abstract

Covid-19 has become a worldwide pandemic that has disrupted human social activities. The transmission of this virus is so fast through intermediary objects or touching one another and causes some symptoms, some even have no symptoms at all even though they have contracted Covid-19. With the transmission through touch, social distancing is enforced, hand washing and reducing touching objects in public places. Even at this time to enter some places have to go through temperature measurements by officers manually. However, measuring body temperature manually will cause officers who take body temperature measurements using firing thermometers to be vulnerable to contracting or transmitting Covid-19 and also causing queues to pile up which results in crowds. Overcoming this requires an automatic body temperature measuring device that can be monitored from the officer^s smartphone. In this study, a tool was designed by utilizing components such as Arduino Uno, temperature sensor and ESP8266 Wifi Module as data transmission to the Blynk application service on Android smartphones. The tool is placed on a doorstop which is made with two conditions, namely, if the body temperature is below 37 &deg-C then the doorstop as a gate will open. On the other hand, if the body temperature is above 37&deg-C, the doorstop will not open. The results of the suitability of comparative data using a firing thermometer using this tool in 30 trials are about 85%. The officers only need to see the body temperature of each person on their smartphone, so there is no contact between the officers and the people who come.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Abstract

Based on data from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the world^s human population in 2021 is 7,875 million. Meanwhile, the human population in Indonesia in 2021 is 276.4 million people. The more human population, the more waste generated. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) on its website states that the amount of national waste in 2020 is projected to be around 67.8 million tons and will continue to grow along with population growth. In order to avoid the accumulation of garbage which results in bins or trash cans being full and scattered, it is necessary to monitor waste by cleaning staff. Waste monitoring carried out by the cleaning staff at Kuntum Cemerlang School is still manual, so it takes a long time to check all the existing trash cans, as a result, it is too late to dispose of waste to the waste bank. One of the innovations that can speed up the monitoring process is to use ultrasonic sensors to determine the height of the waste from the smartphone. The ultrasonic sensor is connected to an arduino uno based on the Internet of Things (IoT) using the Blynk application service on an Android smartphone. The data from the ultrasonic sensor is transmitted to the Blynk application via the ESP8266 Wifi Module. This study uses electrical energy sources from Powerbanks, Solar Panels and Laptops. The height of the waste was made into three conditions, namely full condition (<7 cm), almost full condition (8-20 cm) and still empty condition (>20 cm). The level of suitability of the contents of the trash can with the output on the Blynk application from 30 trials in each condition is 98% valid. With this waste monitoring can be done faster than before.

Abstract

Research on infectious diseases prediction has become a concern for many researches globally. This is realized because the outbreak of infectious diseases has a negative impact for on the quality of human life, including economic conditions. The aim of prediction of infectious diseases is to maximize preventive action so the large-scale outbreak of infectious diseases could be minimized. Although predicting the diseases is not an easy job, but with more data being collected and the progress of methods, this not impossible to do. In addition, some infectious diseases such as ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection)often occur in certain environmental conditions and certain time. So it has been realized that some occurrences of these diseases are seasonal and cannot be separated from the condition of time and location. Therefore, in this study we create a model to predict a potential incidence of infectious diseases based on space-time condition using STARIMA (Sessional Space-Time Autoregressive Moving Average).

Abstract

The success of a construction project can be said to be successful if it meets several aspects, according to its development the level of success must at least be met from the aspects of Cost, Quality, Time, and SMKK (construction safety management system). Each of these aspects has its own parameters, so the overall achievement is needed so that success can be achieved. If we assume that this aspect is a function, then we can formulate it as follows:
fj (x1,....., xn) = a(j,1).x(j,1)^(P(j,1)) + ... + a(j,n).x(j,n)^(P(j,n))
fk (x1,....., xn) = b(k,1).x(k,1)^(P(k,1)) + ... + a(k,n).x(k,n)^(P(k,n))
fl (x1,....., xn) = c(l,1).x(l,1)^(P(l,1))+ ... + a(l,n).x(l,n)^(P(l,n))
fm (x1,....., xn) = c(m,1).x(m,1)^(P(m,1)) + ... + a(m,n).x(m,n)^(P(m,n))
in which :
fj = function of cost
fk = function of quality
fl = function of time
fm = function of SMKK
a(j) = Coefficient /quality for x(j)
b(k) = Coefficient /quality for x(k)
c(l) = Coefficient /quality for x(l)
d(m) = Coefficient /quality for x(m)
Pjn, Pkn, Pln, Pmn, where -~ < p(j), p(k), p(l), p(m) < ~ (a constant where value is between negative infinity and infinity)
By taking a function-based approach, we can map out that the efficiency value in the function at which point is the optimum result. So that the mapping based on these functions can provide an understanding of the parameters that can provide the best results in the success of a construction project.

Abstract

Curriculum change is one of the challenges in the daily practice of education. In The Vocational High School of Computer and Networking Engineering majors as particular, the curriculum changes provide an update on Core Competencies and Basic Competencies (KIKD). Some of these changes include the emergence of core competencies in reviewing fiber optic networks, using fiber optic work tools, making fiber optic connections, repairing fiber optic networks and so on. The consequence of the emergence of the KIKD renewal is that teachers are required to improve their competence in the field of fiber optics. Currently, learning related to fiber optics is only given theoretically. This is due to the lack of teacher competence and limited support for tools and materials for fiber optic practicum. Therefore, a solution is needed so that KIKD needs can be met in accordance with the new adapted curriculum. We found that more than 75% of teachers stated that they could adapt better by participating in the workshop activities.So that, this program has provide fiber optic workshops to Vocational High School teachers of Computer and Networking Engineering majors in Purwakarta with the acceleration in the adaptation of the new curriculum for them.
