Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the installation of Distributed Generation (DG) on the value of voltage drop and real power losses in the distribution network of 20 kV Gunung Dukuh feeder (GNDH). In addition, this study also aims to determine the optimal distribution location of Distributed Generation (DG) to get the best voltage drop and power losses. The background of this research is that the voltage drop and power losses are common in GNDH feeders at PT. PLN (Persero) Cimahi area. The voltage value on the GNDH feeder is sometimes still below the standards set by PLN. This will certainly cause the load not to work optimally and can even cause damage to the electricity load and in the end will be very detrimental to all parties, both the electricity consumer and PT. PLN (Persero). Based on the characteristics of DG directly connected to the distribution system, there is no need for a transmission system to deliver electricity. This is certainly very influential on the decrease in the voltage drop and the value of power losses. The method used in this research is power flow simulation using ETAP 16.0.0 software and analysis after getting simulation results. The findings of this study are the simulation results prove that the installation of DG affects the decrease in voltage drop and power losses in GNDH feeder, before installation of DG the voltage drop in GNDH is 10.1% and the value of power losses before DG installation is amounted to 446.5 kW. After the DG installation simulation, the optimal installation of two DGs is found on the TM 36 bus and the TM 42 bus with a decrease in the voltage drop to 1.18% and a power loss value to 117.2 kW.

State University of Jakarta

Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to describe the influence of harmonic distortion against the percentage error of digital kWh meter to overcome the problem of harmonic distortion in the electric power system to digital kWh meter. This research was conducted at the Electrical Engineering Laboratory at State University of Jakarta.
This research was conducted using the experimental method. The experiment determined the impact of harmonic distortion on digital kWh meter errors by creating harmonics in the test circuit. Data collected by providing changes in non-linear loads then observing and measuring changes in harmonics, and errors in digital kWh meters. Then the measurement results are recorded and analyzed to conclude the influence of harmonic distortion against the percentage error of digital kWh meter.
Linear and non-linear load will affect the measurement of the kWh meter. In load testing, the higher the power the more kWh meter is inaccurate. The linear load of 100 watts with THD-I of 3.25% has the highest kWh meter measurement error rate of 2.99%. While the non-linear load of 100 watts with THD-I of 137.91% has the highest error rate of kWh meter measurement of 14.83%. This shows that the high error rate of digital kWh meter measurement is due to the high non-linear load. While the low error rate of measuring the digital kWh meter is due to the low linear load.

Analysis of Unbalanced Voltage due to Varying Amounts Penetration of Rooftop PV in Distribution Network with Balanced Load
Dhandis R. Jintaka, N. W. Priambodo, Brian Bramantyo S.D.A Harsono, Joko Hartono

PLN Research Institute

Abstract

The increased penetration of rooftop PV on distribution networks is triggered by the increasingly cheap prices of solar panels and free energy obtained from the sun, so that it will get closer to reach the grid parity. However, the massive rooftop PV without storage at medium and low voltages will cause power quality problems, namely increased of voltage fluctuations, unbalanced voltages and harmonics, besides the emergence of active load fluctuations and power factors on the nearest bus. This paper analyzes the increase in unbalanced voltages in the distribution network due to the massive rooftop PV without storage. In a balanced load configuration, the presence of rooftop PV in certain phases with varying amounts penetration will cause voltage imbalances in the distribution network. From the results of this simulation it can be concluded that with a higher number of rooftop PVs, the spread of rooftop PVs on a higher number of phases results in a smaller voltage imbalance than if the rooftop PV is only concentrated in one particular phase. Then, Longer network lengths provide greater imbalance compared to networks with shorter distances.

Abstract

The development of control technology, especially in the field of robotics is improving more progress in efforts to complete human work. One of them is goods transport robot that used in industry. At present, the majority of robots transporting goods still controlled by human. In this paper, a design of the automation system for robotic goods carriers will be presented. One of the challenges in the development of a goods transport robot system is how the robot can run stably when carrying goods. This paper presents a design of a robotic goods transport based on line sensors and fuzzy logic control so that when the robot is running, it can run smoothly. The input used in this fuzzy logic system is the light and weight which obtained from the BFD-1000 sensor and barometric sensor. Whereas the output of the fuzzy system is the speed of right motor and the left motor that can stabilize the robot when the load is added. The simulation was done using Matlab to get the membership function value. Based on the simulation results using a case example, it is known that the load carried is 404 grams and the living sensor is sensor 3. Then the simulation results obtained speed of right motor PWM value of 128 and speed of left motor PWM value of 128. So that the robot runs in a straight state. Based on this result, we can conclude that this control model could be implemented well to the real system.

State Polytechnic Of Malang

Abstract

Currently, the demand for electricity is increasing from time to time. While the existence of fossil fuels to generate electricity is depleted. This condition resulted in the use of renewable energy source in electrical power generation. Since the electricity generated from renewable energy sources is not constant because it is depending on the climatic conditions, a controller of the charging and discharging mechanism on a battery is necessary for it to work optimally for storing electricity. To overcome this problem, one of the solutions is by applying hybrid power generation technology. One the important equipments related to this technology is the application of a charge controller. The charge controller here is used to control the charging and discharging mechanism to store electricity in a battery. The charge controller is found mainly in a stand alone mechanism where the controller only have one input from one renewable energy source. If we have more than one renewable sources, therefore we need a charge controller with multiple input terminals. This study examines and compares the design of a stand alone charge controller and a multiple input charge controller. The result shows that it is more efficient to use a multiple input charge controller rather than to use two single input charge controller.

Politeknik Enjinering Indorama

Abstract

The prototype of the paddy drying machine is a device used for paddy dryers that are not weather dependent. The driver of this prototype paddy drying machine uses ½ HP induction motor as its main mover. To be able to adjust the induction motor rotation, the writer uses the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) brand LS iC5 with 1 HP power. The rotation needed to rotate the load can be done by changing the frequency and voltage so that the rotation speed of the induction motor can be adjusted as needed. From the testing of a no-load induction motor with a frequency adjustment range from 5 Hz to 13 Hz, the induction motor speed is 142.8 rpm to 375.3 rpm. The measured voltage is 76.5 V to 116.7 V and the measured current is 2.5 A to 1.6 A. From the results of the test of a no-load induction motor it can be concluded that the Frequency to voltage ratio is directly proportional while the frequency to current ratio is inversely proportional. In testing induction motors with a frequency adjustment range from 5 Hz to 9 Hz, they produce the same conclusions as those of no-load induction motors. VFD is certainly appropriate to be used as a speed regulator as needed.

PLN Research Institute

Abstract

Most of distribution line in Indonesia is surrounded by the vegetation, and it causing frequent interruptions of temporary ground phase when bare conductors are used to distribute power. To face this problem, the distribution utility replaced the bare conductor by using a covered conductor, which in the current standard, covered conductor has only one insulation layer, that is XLPE. During its operation, many covered conductors are found broken. The phenomenon is started by the occurrence of pinholes which is caused by cable degradation by voltage stress. When the lightning strikes, it cause over voltage and short-circuit current flowing from the phase to the ground through the pinhole. Under the mechanical tension, if the short-circuit current has sufficient energy, the covered conductor broken. To reduce the voltage stress and probability of pinhole occurrence, this paper proposed the novel design of covered conductors and it accessories. The study was conducted through simulations using finite element simulation tools. The simulation results show that voltage stress reduction can be done by adding semiconductor layer into the XLPE insulation, replacing the insulator material from ceramic to polymer, placing the bonding tip at the top, and modifying the binding method using the special clamp method.

By knowing the number of turns of the AC servo motor through the encoder, the length of the pipe can also be determined. The AC servo motor with Mitsubishi HC-KFS43 400W models are used to pull the pipe, gripping the pipe, and moving the cutting machine while a modified AC circle saw motor is used to drive the cutting blade. Based on the results of the study, the cutting machine can cut pipes automatically according to the desired number and length of the pipe. The work process can be monitored and controlled on a computer through HMI.

Abstract

Water is a primary human need for carrying out daily activities. Before being consumed or used in daily life, water must be free of germs and free of pollutants. One of the water pollutants is household waste that comes from used water containing soap. If the water is to be reused, the pH of the water should be around 7 by mixing acidic solution with a certain concentration into the wastewater. This paper describes the prototype of a closed loop pH control system using the pH sensor V1.1 and Arduino microcontroller. The pH control process is carried out by mixing an acidic solution into the wastewater. A stirrer is activated to accelerate the neutralization process through the actuation signal sent from the Arduino microcontroller to the DC motor that connected to the stirrer. By comparing three pollutant samples, the experimental results show that the final value of pH around 7 is rendered effectively between 90 to 130 seconds of mixing process.

Abstract

In this study, the addition of defective ground structure (DGS) to a microstrip triangle antenna was developed to improve bandwidth performance. Development is carried out through the addition of a double dumbbell-shaped at the DGS antenna structure that works at 28 GHz for 5G applications. The sample design is 4T4R microstrip antenna using Rogers RT5880 substrate material with a dielectric constant (ε_r) of 2.2, h = 0.787 mm. The sample antenna design has dimension 30.11 × 19.89 mm. This study uses a research and development approach through the calculation of DGS structure and design of multiple dumbbell-shaped on the ground layer. The simulation and measurement results show a significant increase in bandwidth performance compared to without using DGS. This study also shows the improvement in bandwidth performance and the gain of microstrip antenna with the addition of double dumbbell-shaped compared to the addition of single dumbbell-shaped in previous studies.

Electrical Engineering,
Telkom University

Abstract

The increase in population every year makes more and more owners of motorized vehicles and cars resulting in full access to the highway, not only the highway that experiences density while the bridge is one of the factors of density due to the number of motorized vehicles and cars that pass not only at a certain time the bridge will be congested and experience enough vibrations because the load carried by the bridge is different, the greater the load held by the bridge, the more the bridge vibrates, therefore the writer will make an instrument using a geophone sensor that can measure how much vibration on the bridge and analyze how strong concrete works on the bridge which often occurs density, with the elastomer or rubber pads used between abutments with the placement of the elastomer feeding road will reduce vibrations that occur due to the burden carried by the bridge.

This tool will use the main components in the form of geophone sensors. Geophone converts ground motion into voltage, Geophone is a transducer of ground movement that is very sensitive. A geophone converts seismic energy, or vibration, into an electric voltage that can be measured accurately.

In this study, it was found that geophone sensors can find out the amount of voltage and deflection that occurs when a vehicle crosses the bridge, to process data in this system using a microcontroller in the form of Arduino uno and displayed in excel data to facilitate data collection. From this study it can be concluded with a maximum deflection of 0.3 cm or 0.003 meters at a time of 1045kg, meanwhile when a vehicle load of 2 tons to 10 tons will occur a maximum deflection of up to 2 cm on the Cilampeni Bridge and on the Kopo Tol Bridge
